Limitless Lives

How much could we accomplish if we believed in ourselves as much as God believes in us?

As a father, there are few greater joys than watching your children grow and accomplish amazing things, things that they themselves once believed impossible. I watched last Saturday as my oldest daughter Emily and her 4 x 400m relay team demolished the Wofford College school record in 3:57 to win the Terrier Relays, lowering their previous mark by six seconds. When interviewed afterwards about the accomplishment, Emily responded that her coach had submitted a time of 3:57 for their team during the meet seeding process despite the fact that the team had never come close to breaking the four-minute mark. HE had believed in them even before THEY had believed in themselves. Simply knowing that their coach believed they were capable of such a time made all the difference in the world. As Matthew Barrett once said,

"Faith is believing that God is going to take you places before you even get there."

What could we accomplish if we simply believed that we were capable of so much more? Why do we limit ourselves and the possibilities when we have a Father who made us in His own image, who believes in us, inspires us, and intentionally surrounds us with people to encourage us in our pursuit of great things? When I see my own three daughters, I see the possibilities not the limits. I believe God looks at us and sees us in this very same light. Just as Emily's college track coach stepped out in audacious faith and believed in advance that something great was possible because of the capacity he saw in his girls, we belong to a God who knows all that we are capable of being and doing even before we do it and even when we doubt. He's gone on record in advance, submitting and cementing His belief in us through the promise and the gift of His only son. Now it's simply up to us to accept the gift and believe in ourselves as He believes in us.

"When you have a task to do,
But don't think you can follow through,
Let go of fear and know it's true,
That God believes in you" - Holly Bea
