Taking it all in....and giving thanks

Last night's Ironman dinner here in Madison brings together the 2000+ athletes who will compete tomorrow for some carbo-loading, fellowship, and pre-race instruction. Mike Reily, long known as "The Voice of The Ironman" hosts the evening, he also is the finishing line announcer who welcomes each and every athlete home across the finish line with the words "Todd Gothberg, from Asheville, North Carolina, YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!". Mike called up onto stage a 64 year-old, the race's oldest female participant. He asked her if she had any advice for the first timers. Her words were simple yet powerful.

"Take time to enjoy the moment and think about how blessed you are just to be here competing".

So often we miss the moments. I've been preparing for this race for six months, and it all comes down to one day. It's over so quickly. I'll be nervous and anxious for sure, but I'm praying that God brings peace and calm to my heart so that I stay in the moment, taking it all in, recognizing how fortunate I am to simply be here in Madison, doing something so many people can only dream about. The Lord has blessed me with the strength, will, and commitment to train my body and mind to the level that allows something like this to be possible. And for that I am grateful. I'm also praying that my effort tomorrow brings glory to Him who made all of this possible. It is time for me to BELIEVE!

When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It's to enjoy each step along the way. - Wayne Dyer
