Anyone who has ever watched or done a Triathlon knows that the race elements separating the three events (swim, bike, run) are called transitions. The areas physically separating the three event zones are called transition zones. For elite athletes, the time spent transitioning between events can make or break a race - seconds more spent changing out clothes or equipment can be the difference between first and second. The best athletes scope out the areas ahead of time, planning their every step and mentally running through their transition zone approach. Come race time, they know where to go and what's waiting on the other side. They've driven the course in advance and are physically and mentally prepared for what is to come beyond these transition zones.
Our lives are filled with transition zones...life is more like a triathlon than a marathon. It's not one long, steady journey but a series of journeys broken up by transitions. The big difference is that we don't have the opportunity ahead of time to ride the course or know what lies ahead. Each transition can be scary, filled with more questions than answers, more doubt than certainty, more despair than hope. We simply don't know what's just ahead. We just know that the place from which we just moved was more comfortable. And we like to be comfortable. But "comfort" doesn't promote growth, build character, or serve to refine and further define us. So we must move forward in faith. And we must rest in the assurance that while we may not know what's on the other side of the transition, we do know Who holds us and we do know Who holds tomorrow. He already knows the course ahead, just on the other side of our transition zone. And it is in that assurance that we must take comfort, keeping the faith throughout, believing that His best for us is right around the corner. BELIEVE.
