"I Believe God made me for a purpose, but He also made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure" - Eric Liddell, 1924 British Olympian
As I fight off sleep in an effort to begin acclimating to Australian time and survive the long flight Down Under, my mind is racing .... I've successfully banished all negative thoughts. I KNOW that I am ready. I have prepared my body, my mind, and my spirit for this opportunity and I can honestly say that I am looking forward to competing in the World Championships representing the United States of America (how cool does that sound?). But most importantly, I know that I compete for a greater purpose and a higher calling, regardless of the outcome next Wednesday afternoon.
"Eric, you are the proud possessor of many gifts. It is your sacred duty to put them to good use. Don't compromise. Compromise is the language of the devil. Run in God's name, and let the world stand back in wonder." - Rev. JD Liddell
So I will go to compete and I will not compromise. I will run in God's name, for His glory. Every moment that I get to exert and push myself beyond what I believe to be my own self-imposed physical limitations I will count as a blessing. And as I always do, I will feel His pleasure through the pain. Because I honestly believe that the Lord will take delight in my effort putting the wonderful gifts that He has blessed me with to good use on this big stage. And if my effort and result cause people to stand back in wonder, may I have the courage and wisdom to give credit where credit is due.
