I love the music of "Casting Crowns"....one song in particular "Somewhere in the Middle" has a great line...."Fearless warriors in a picket fence, reckless abandon wrapped in common sense, Deep water faith in the shallow end and we are caught in the middle...." The song is about not fully committing, or at least momentarily committing when the support system is in place and we are in a familiar setting - when we are at church surrounded by fellow followers, at work supported by fellow "Wellness Warriors", or on the phone with a best friend or accountability partner, everything makes sense. We know what we're supposed to do. We know how we should live our lives. It's black and white. Easy to be passionate, committed, on fire. But somewhere between the sanctuary and the street, somewhere between the office and the parking lot, when we leave to go out into our lives, it all leaks out. It gets gray. The passion ebbs, the commitment wavers, and the belief that once existed escapes us. I struggle with how to help people avoid that gray area - I see how energized they become when I talk about a personal wellness program and intentionally making changes in their lives to improve how they feel. I watch people during church, listening and reacting to what they hear - and then trying to get what they just heard from their head into their hands, feet, and heart so that it transforms their lives. I have no easy answers....but I do know that we need to invest the time into the personal journeys of those around us, so that the effort isn't a solo one. We need to be the bridge for each other that closes the gap and helps with the follow through - until people see and experience the possiblilites. BELIEVE.
